I realized how it feels when urgent plasma donor is required and the same loop of asking social connections, getting varied responses- most of the time leading to delayed help, is followed.

Some notable resources for next emergency(till we live a vaccine-dream):

i) https://www.dhoondh.com/- It requires you to fill patient’s details -Name,Age,Mobile Number, Email-Address, Gender, Current City, Hospital, Blood Group, Doctor prescription (if available).

Form might look big but once you fill in the details, their team tries to contact you as soon as possible. (Mostly < 1 day).

Uploading a doctor prescription helps them verify your need faster so please ask your doctor to write up for plasma need.

ii) https://friends2support.org//- This can help you find people who have registered themselves in your area.

Really quick and useful. (tip: Search in your state rather than restricting to your location- people might travel)

iii) http://givered.in/- This is a PAN India initiative, with a team of volunteers working heavily to help people with the cause.

Detailed form required, but worth a try.

Plasma Therapy

iv) Facebook groups -

  1. Covid 19 Plasma donation Group
  2. Covid warriors/Plasma donors Delhi

Such groups can be of great help and you can scroll through posts where people have posted for required blood group and directly approach the commenters!

v) There are some groups working towards helping people, but individual help can be limited due to location issues-

i) KAB Welfare foundation

ii) Lokesh: +91-8373956645 He might be able to help find donors in emergency cases. (helped me but he arranges paid donors)

Things to keep in mind:

  1. People between age 18–55 required. Preferred < 50
  2. People with hypertension and diabetes too are eligible if all other conditions are under control.
  3. HIV, kidney transplant recipients, cancer patients, TB patients, had surgery in the past six months are ineligible
  4. Ask the contacted person to share their Covid -ve report first, as some people might just be misleading.
  5. Sadly, people have started charging upto 30–40k for plasma donation, we need some good volunteers to overcome this.
  6. Most people are ready to travel to your location, so don’t limit your search to locality and book cab for eligible people.

I myself saw a person travel 80 kms to help with plasma.

For donors:

i) There will be no change in health of plasma donors. No blood cells are extracted from blood, so there is no chance of weakness. You can get back to work in just over an hour

Give back to society:

If you have tested negative for Covid and are eligible for plasma donation, please step forward and register yourself on the shared sites.

You might end up giving some families reasons to live :)

Please add more helpful resources in comments. These are just some resources which helped me.
